peace

isn’t a cool concept to have peace in the brain?  I  hope we can all achieve this like Ilchi Lee says…then we would be creative, peaceful, productive

Ballet Hang Gong

Since I was very young, I trained in ballet, jazz and lyrical dance. My favorite exercise has always been ballet bar. When I came to dahn yoga, I realized that the reason I enjoyed ballet bar so much is because as I was working through my foot and balance routines, I was meditating — the repetition of the movements and holding of the postures is so similar to hang gong — watching inside and feeling calm and centered. I am so thankful to my Mom for signing me up for class as a young child — now I am able to blend my background with that of Dahn Yoga and Dahn Mu Do. I love the free expression of energy in Dahn Mu Do practice. I thank Ilchi Lee for creating it for me to experience and enjoy and use as a tool for continuous growth.

A very good posture in Dahn Yoga

Relax lying comfortably on your stomach on a mat placed on the floor. Place your palms on your lower back. Cross your hands with your palms facing up (it’s okay not to cross your hands if you’re less flexible). Pull your toes toward your knees so that your ankles form a 90 degree angle. From this position, lift your torso and neck, inhaling. Hold this posture and your breath for a moment, and then lower your upper body, slowly exhaling as you do so. Do about 10 repetitions. Be careful not to hold your breath so long that your face flushes. Consciously tense your lower abdomen.

Bladder Merdian Systemin Dahn Yoga

The autonomic nervous system controls, unconsciously or reflexively, all functions necessary for the maintenance of life, such as respiration, digestion, circulation, absorption, excretion, and reproduction. The Bladder Meridian contains a total of 134 acupuncture points, 67 on each side of the body, and has a tremendous influence on all bodily functions since it is connected to every organ.

When you feel fatigue, do this Dahn Yoga practice

Stretching from the crown of the head down along the spine to the tip of the toes, the Bladder Meridian is the longest of the twelve energy meridians. As an organ, the bladder is a place where urine from the kidneys is stored temporarily, but as part of an energy system, the bladder is very closely related to our body’s autonomic nervous system. Starting at the eyes, the Bladder Meridian travels up over the crown of the head, and then flows down from the head along the back of the body to the toes. Splitting in two at the back of the neck, the meridian flows downward parallel with the spine until the two branches on each side of the back are reunited behind the knees. The meridians are distributed in pairs on both sides of our bodies. Therefore, a total of four lines of the Bladder Meridian flow parallel to the spine, which protects the autonomic nervous system.

activating acupuncture points through Dahn Yoga

Whether you’re sitting or standing, exhale slowly as you bend your upper body forward to stretch your upper and lower back. Anyone doing this movement slowly and repeating it several times will feel their body and mind relax, and their abdomen in particular will feel more comfortable. This result occurs because, as the exercise simultaneously stimulates the Bladder Meridian and its dozens of acupuncture points, it also affects the organs connected with those points.

Meridian flowing in Dahn Yoga class

In your regular Dahn classes, you learn to brush your hands down the back side of your legs, from your lower back to your feet, when you change to a sitting posture after doing standing meridian exercises. Why do we do this? We do it to stimulate the Bladder Meridian flowing down the back of the body, which helps effectively relax the lower body.

i teach at my center

and it has been the best job i’ve had so far–it doesn’t even seem like work–i have fun with the members, focus on my health and sharing love with myself and others–it’s really a great job.  I am so happy that Ilchi Lee created dahn yoga so we could have these type of jobs–we don’t have to be on a mountain meditating, or do things for charity–being a dahn instructor means doing for yourself and at the same time for others, it’s a win/win.
