Lyrics:

”When you walk through the storm. hold your head up high and don’t be afraid of the dark”.

When things are looking their worst, is when they are just about to get better, have patience and don’t give up.

Our understanding of the Earth and our relation to it and responsibility for it is changing rapidly these days. The perspective floating blue, green and white in dark space and we living on it is compelling when we focus on ecology and humanity. As Ilchi Lee in Mago’s Dream puts it, “Earth is not a private club; it is a universal club. Being born allows you to receive a membership card; you don’t have to do anything else for it.  And it is the most beautiful club that you will ever find. Once you have realized that you are a member, don’t you want to keep it clean and comfortable for fellow members to use?” I know I do.

There are many vital and interesting parts of our body. But by far the most unique and profound one is the human brain. As eloquently put by Ilchi Lee in his book, Principles of Brain Management, “You can look at your brain as a microcosm that contains everything you have been and holds the potential of everything you will become. The brain is unique when compared with other organs because it is the only one that exerts influence on the world outside your body, as well as inside your body. It is also the only organ that can be used to understand itself, and it is the only organ that can modify itself.” Sorry, liver and toes, it is no contest: the brain rules!

In Ilchi Lee’s book “Peaceology” he discusses how all of us, one individual at a time, “are all creators and benefactors of peace, as well as its beneficiaries.” He defines experts in peace as those who “truly love humanity, the Earth” and peace itself. In reading this, I realized how simple peace can be. To just enjoy your surroundings and share that joy with others is a simple peace. It made me happy to know that I do this naturally, but have not realized it as creating peace. It is true, when I am outside on a walk, watching the squirrels and birds hop about, I truly feel both happy inside and at peace. Certainly this is a simple activity I can share with others to create peace on a regular basis. Just by enjoying ourselves we can all create peace.

To explain complex and abstract concepts, such as the soul and body’s relationship, Ilchi Lee often resorts to metaphor. Here is one of his best, “The body is to the soul as the car is to its driver. The car exists for the driver, not the driver of the car. A car is precious when it has a driver. Without a driver, though, a car is nothing but a heap of scrap metal. The body will vanish sooner or later, like an old car rusting away in a junkyard. Our bodies are growing old and wearing out, just like old cars. A look at our bodies right now shows that they are used articles. And we’ll have to go to the junkyard someday. We should abandon this car of ours after putting it to plenty of good use. This car exists for the soul. Though our bodies die, our souls do not die. This means that our souls do not belong to our bodies. Our emotions and desires die along with our bodies. This body is precious to us because we have a soul. The body exists for the growth and completion of the soul.”

For certain types of thoughts and emotions, it would be desirable if would spring from a spiritual state. According to Ilchi Lee, “Everyone finds that, although not always, there are times in their lives when they experience a holy state of mind. When this happens, I want you to understand, ‘Ah, this has come from my brain stem, from deep within my head.’ It is something truly good, not something that we get when we are rewarded or praised by others. It is an emotion that comes out of a truly holy heart. When you experience such feelings, if you hold onto them and continue to refine them further, you will be able to develop your own thoughts to be really beautiful.”

There is an air of mystery with creativity. Do you get it from others or do you find it in yourself? According to Ilchi Lee, “We get novel ideas when we work hard right where we are. The ideas come. The things you create with the ideas that come at such times no one else can imitate. That’s why you can become the best at what you do. If you try to imitate others, you will only follow them around every day and end up with nothing.” Once again, the answer is inside of us.

Are you fully positive about your life? Few persons can respond in the affirmative. If you want to be more positive about your life, according to Ilchi Lee in one his lectures, you have to select your messages well. As he puts it, “We grow as we continue to receive many messages. When we are young, our parents communicate to us many messages. ‘Wash your hands.’ ‘Wash your face.’ ‘Study.’ Various kinds of messages enter our heads. Once messages come in, our brains start to move that information and move our bodies. We create our own messages when we grow older. It’s about creating. What sort of messages do we create? The level of our souls is the level of the messages we create.”
