Cosmic life energy

As we enter the world of the limbic system, we realize that we share the same emotional and instinctual make up, a commonality found to an even more profound degree in the brain stem through which we are all tethered to the same life energy that animates the cosmos.

-from “Brain Respiration” by Ilchi Lee

We are sharing our life energy.

Ilchi Lee on Brain Stem

What is your dream? What brings you lasting joy and happiness? Can we tell real joy from joy from ego? There can be many different kinds of joy. It might be necessary to have a clear view of what is really needed for my true self.

In the Brain Wave Vibration book, Ilchi Lee mentions the brain stem many times. We really have to think about what we really want. Today I asked myself. What is it that I really want? I am not in my 10s or 20s any more. I should have a clear goal by now, if not I have it decades ago. Actually I do have my goal. The question is, then, how much passion I have. How much do I want it? The brick wall exists not to turn me away but to keep others who want it not that much from going over it.

This is all about making choices and imprint it on my brain. I decided that I will make a necessary choice. I don’t have any other choices to make. The Secret, the law of attraction, You can Heal Yourself, Oprah, etc. all these celebrity, successful people and books are delivering the same message. Thoughts become things.

I have made a choice. I will move forward with it. My brain stem has the answer.

Ilchi Lee on the Healing Power of Rhythm

Brain Wave Vibration created by Ilchi Lee is a rhythmical training method; it begins with moving your body to the beat of music, and from there the sensation expands as you find your body’s natural rhythm. In a sense, you could say you are calibrating your brain to get back in sync with your body.

People use rhythm instinctively to help calm their own brain waves. When a baby cries or fusses, asks Ilchi Lee, what does a mother do? She rocks and gently bounces the baby until the baby quiets down. No one had to teach the mother how to do this; she does so very naturally. Children will also rock and bounce themselves on their own to calm themselves, if the parent is not there.

In Korea, we teach children the do-ri do-ri movement, which is strikingly similar to basic Brain Wave Vibration. The child rocks the head side to side and repeats, “Do-ri do-ri,” which translates as “truth” or “principle.” Because many energy pathways meet at the neck, Ilchi Lee adds, it is thought to advance children’s development, especially brain development.

Ilchi Lee on completion of the soul

These perpetual caterpillars do not understand that there is one more stage, the most important stage, that is the source of true and lasting happiness. This is the stage Ilchi Lee calls “completion of the soul.” Once you have accomplished success in the “real” world, however you choose to define that, you can achieve the butterfly stage by turning your mind toward a different kind of success in which you find full expression of your highest sense of self. This can begin anytime in life, but older adulthood is the ideal time, a time when many other longings have been fulfilled.

Completion means reaching a state of full awakening, in which you feel and live according to a continuous state of oneness. This means stepping beyond the ego of the small self to fulfill your mission of service to humanity. At this point your mind will be enveloped in constant joy, and you will be finally able to become that beautiful, fluttering butterfly.

Dancing with Energy

Ilchi Lee likes to demonstrate this for people because it also demonstrates how to live in harmony with the flow of life, letting each note come as it will, without resistance or judgment. To me the difference between great musicians and an ordinary ones lies not in how they play the music but in how they play with the music. Likewise, we must learn to play with the reality of our lives by living completely in the flow and rhythm of each moment, rather than trying to play it according to the preconceptions and restrictions of the past.

Many years ago, Ilchi Lee developed a training method called Dahnmu, which is meant to open people completely to this sort of universal rhythm. The word dahn refers to the basic, vital energy of life, and mu means “dance”; thus it could be called “energy dance” in English. In this practice, says Ilchi Lee, which is a form of Brain Wave Vibration, you are encouraged to let go of all limitations and simply follow the energy of the moment, letting the flow of energy move your body as it will.

Serendipitously, the word mu can also translate as “nothingness.” The state of mu, or nothingness, is achieved during Brain Wave Vibration when the mind is truly empty of thought, and you are able to simply follow the rhythms of life without hesitation. According to Ilchi Lee, at this point, the boundaries of your body cease to exist, and you may experience a profound sense of oneness – first with the rhythms of your own body and ultimately with the universal rhythms of all life as your sense of separation fades away.

Ilchi Lee on music

Ilchi Lee says in his new book, Brain Wave Vibration, that in reality, when you respond to a piece of music, nothing actually changes in the world around you. Do you respond to a happy tune with a smile because that song somehow fixed all your problems? Of course not. Your life condition remains the same, with or without the song. But something did change – something within your brain – that allowed your perspective on life to change as well.

Dancing with Energy

Did you know that Ilchi Lee is a musician? He has not received training in the usual way, but Ilchi Lee often plays instruments during my lectures, including flutes, ocarinas, gongs, chimes, and other sorts of folk instruments.

As he plays, Ilchi Lee does not follow any written music, just what comes naturally to me through the flow of energy. He says “During the experience, I am transported, and I hope the audience along with me, into the movement of the music itself. Even if I did know how to read music, I would not use it during the lectures. If I did have a piece of music sitting in front of me, part of my awareness would be on the printed page, not in the actual pure vibration of each individual note as it is played.” Ilchi Lee continues, the point of these demonstrations is to lose oneself in the music, letting go of all thought and judgment.

Creating Brain Wave Vibration

Ilchi Lee’s initial interest was to create health through the enhanced flow of energy in the body. Ilchi Lee began simply by teaching stretching exercises in a park. At first, only one person came–a man who had suffered a stroke. Ilchi Lee worked with him to stretch his body and to open the meridians that carry energy through his body. Overtime, he gained more and more movement, attaining a remarkable degree of recovery.

As Ilchi Lee gathered a larger number of students, Lee worked on developing more training methods, hoping to find the simplest, most effective means of returning people to physical, mental and spiritual health. The results included Dahn Yoga, DahnMuDo (a gentle form of martial art), Jung Choong Breathing, and many other healing exercises and techniques. Many of these are very effective, but they all require a certain amount of guidance to understand and practice. He was still seeking simplest mode of healing, one that could be instantly understood and practiced by anyone.

Ilchi Lee hosted BE conference at the UN

Wow! Ilchi Lee hosted Brain Education conference at the UN conference room #4 on June 20th 2008.

Over 400 educators and parents from the United States participated in the conference, as well as educators and members of foreign IBREA chapters from South Korea, Japan, England, Germany, Israel, and Canada.

The Conference was hosted by the Korea Institute of Brain Science (KIBS, president: Ilchi Lee) and the International Brain Education Association (IBREA, chairman: Ilchi Lee) at the UN complex in New York City. According to organizers, this conference “marks a new era of awareness—that the future of education and hope for the earth depend essentially on how we access and use the brain.”

It’s great!
