In a lecture, Ilchi Lee took a metaphorical approach to meditation as going into the Earth to discover layers of water. In his practical language, even in the form of a poem, read and enjoy and benefit from meditation:

Meditation is what you do until spring water sprouts forth.

When we meditate,
we face a lot of control drama and preconceptions.
As soon as we close our eyes we can see people whom we dislike
or feel negative thoughts and sorrow.

Meditation is like digging in the ground with a pipeline.
Delving the ground for underground water,
we can see dirty water flowing all around,
and sometimes we need to penetrate garbage
piled layer upon layer.

We seem to have fewer idle thoughts when we don’t meditate.
But when we take a seat for meditation, we have more idle thoughts.
While digging the inside, garbage comes up.

But, what will happen if we delve very deep?

We can find the pure and original spring water.
For meditation,
do it until spring water sprouts forth
penetrating idle thoughts completely.

Through this process
we can see our true self,
like clear spring water.

The deeper you learn to go in your meditation, the more you get in touch with your true self
If you stay with a behavior, you change. If you stop it, the old pattern takes over again: “The body and brain function to create with continuously repeated concentration. We cannot do all of our various, difficult training exercises from the beginning. Continuous repetition creates this ability. This is something our brains create for us. With continued concentration, our brains change our bodies, enabling us to do these exercises. What happens, though, if we quit? That’s the end of it; our development stops right there.” It is all our choice, over and over again.
Your face, age, emotions? These are not everything you are. Instead, close your eyes and try to see yourself.” See your true self and soul, so different and more wondrous than the body and mind in the mirror.
The brain is unique when compared with other organs because it is the only one that exerts influence on the world outside your body, as well as inside your body. It is also the only organ that can be used to understand itself, and it is the only organ that can modify itself.” Sorry, liver and toes, it is no contest: the brain rules!
Here is one of his best, “The body is to the soul as the car is to its driver. The car exists for the driver, not the driver of the car. A car is precious when it has a driver. Without a driver, though, a car is nothing but a heap of scrap metal. The body will vanish sooner or later, like an old car rusting away in a junkyard. Our bodies are growing old and wearing out, just like old cars. A look at our bodies right now shows that they are used articles. And we’ll have to go to the junkyard someday. We should abandon this car of ours after putting it to plenty of good use. This car exists for the soul. Though our bodies die, our souls do not die. This means that our souls do not belong to our bodies. Our emotions and desires die along with our bodies. This body is precious to us because we have a soul. The body exists for the growth and completion of the soul.”
